Evolving Trends in Global Supply Chain Management – Outsourcing the SCM function

Speaker: Dr David Wile - Professor Colorado Technical University

5:30 Registration and Networking
6:00 Dinner and Presentation

Outline:

Outsourcing Supply Chain Management – Is it in your future?

Managing the supply chain is critical to the success of most businesses. However, SCM is often not a core competency of these businesses. As a result, there is an increasing trend to outsource this function. What does this trend mean to the supply chain professional? How could it affect SCM jobs in Southern Colorado? If this outsourced trend is carried to an end state, SCM functions could reside in the hand of a few international companies. Is this the right answer for your company? Is it the “right” answer for this profession?

As a supply chain professional, there are several questions you need to consider.

  • What factors drive companies to the use of third party logistics providers or to outsource supply chain management?
  • Are these factors present in your company?
  • Should you work to address these factors to keep the function in house?
  • What do you need to show management to convince them the function should not be outsourced?
  • What are your options, if the organization decides to outsource SCM?
  • Should NAPM of Southern Colorado have a position on or a plan to address this issue?
  • If so, how can the chapter add value to its members in this area?

For information and approaches on this important issue, come to the Thursday, May 22nd meeting.

Who should attend:

  • Supply Chain Managers, leads and staff
  • CFOs and CPOs
