Intellectual Property Jabberwocky: Can I Patent a Trademark
for a Copyright? Is a primer on the fundamental areas of intellectual
property law (patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret
law). The differences between and uses of each type of intellectual
property will be defined and explained. Armed with this information,
attendees will be able to distinguish and identify intellectual
property associated with their businesses and to understand
the importance of protecting the same.

Brenda
Speer has been a long-time resident of Colorado Springs.
She moved to the city as a child in 1970 and grew up and
finished
her primary education here. After living in various places
to complete her undergraduate and graduate education, as well
as to gain work experience, she returned to Colorado Springs
in 1996. During her almost 17 years as an attorney, she has
honed her area of emphasis, intellectual property law (patent,
trademark and copyright), through both private law firm practice
and in-house legal department service. In October 2004 she
re-entered private law practice as a solo practitioner and
provides legal counsel to artists, entertainers, innovators
and businesses in the technological, creative and business
arts.
Her passion
is protecting the creative works, inventions, proprietary
information and trade identities of her clients. She is an
avid champion
in educating and enabling her clients to protect and promote
their valuable brainchildren. Brenda lives in the Springs
with her husband and her collection of books, accessories and
sewing
and needlework supplies and is active in the community and
affiliated with many organizations, of which her favorite
is playing with the Pikes Peak Philharmonic as principal French
horn.
