Metrics: The Evolution of Sourcing within IR - Security
& Safety Sector
Sourcing
globally can definitely challenge your professional ability
and especially the expectations you've come to expect from not
only your suppliers, but also your own organization. This presentation
will address some of these and share with you with some of the
experiences Security & Safety Sector (SSA) has had. You
will also be introduced to some of the strategies and tools
that have been developed to help define our performance metrics
and enable us to achieve the performance levels we need. These
include supplier assessments, legal issues and support, cultural
understanding, staffing, documentation needs, customs and logistics,
and many more. While IR-SSA is a worldwide manufacturer, this
information can be useful to anyone involved with domestic and
offshore procurement of services and technology, as well.
Strategic
Sourcing within Ingersoll-Rand has taken on a new focus the
past 5 years, and the Security & Safety Sector's (SSA) sourcing
organization has been a leader and pacesetter for the Corporation.
Within SSA the change began with the development of the Walk
Of Fire, which is a process that leads an organization from
a Rudimentary performance level all the way to Excellence and
World Class. It has moved SSA from a group of stand-alone companies
with their own individual processes, practices, and ideals,
which frequently clashed or wasted valuable financial and people
resources, to one which has potential to leverage throughout
the sector and with all the other business units of I-R, as
well. In particular, the Walk Of Fire focuses on four (4) primary
sourcing processes; (1) Spend Analysis, (2) Market Analysis,
(3) Strategy Development, and (4) Contracts, Policies, and Professional
Development. Within each of these comes the design and development
of the various tools and practices that each and every sourcing
professional, or Commodity Manager, has at their disposal as
they manage their particular supply base and spend responsibility.
The objective, as it always should be, is to identify and develop
a supply chain that supports the individual business needs,
offers growth potential to the best of the best, and enables
leverage opportunities across the entire Ingersoll-Rand organization
worldwide. SSA still has a long way to go, but wants to be the
company others use as a benchmark model.
